One of the biggest problems with mocking is that you have no idea what anyone is going to do, or who will be available. Well the draft is over, and I know exactly what teams did, and who was available for our picks. Now I can make my own picks based off of the same climate our GM was picking in for each round. This will be nice to revisit in a few years.

Round 1 - Pick 6

Actual Pick: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC

Re-Draft Pick: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC

There is absolutely nothing I would do to change this pick. Picking Leo had to be the guy. When the best player of the draft falls to you at 6, you don't even blink. Yes, we did try to trade back, but no one gave us what we wanted. I applaud Mike Maccagnan for sticking to his board, and not jumping ship to go after a position that was more of a need. I like Kevin White, but I didn't like him at 6. Vic Beasley was another option, but I feel like Todd Bowles prefers his edge guys with more size. Leo adds to our existing gluttony of talent along the D-line. It's going to be fun to see how Bowles uses all these guys together to lock down the line of scrimmage

Round 2 - Pick 37

Actual Pick: Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

Re-Draft Pick: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

This would have been a very hard pick for me if I were the GM. I would have had 3 WRs available that I love. Smith is the vertical threat we lack, and will fill that need admirably. The thing is, I believe he has 2nd round talent. DGB and Strong have first round talent. I am hearing there is some kind of wrist issue with Strong that is worrying a lot of teams, so I will trust our medical team. DGB on the other hand is healthy, and filled to the brim with talent. If it wasn't for his off the field issues, he would be a top 10 pick. The risk is there, but in the 2nd round, the reward over shadows that risk. His size, speed height combination would make him a matchup nightmare. If you put him next to our other matchup nightmares, our receiving core becomes a night terror. I am happy with Smith, but I feel like DGB could be a true #1 once Brandon Marshall is gone.

Round 3 - Pick 82 (Trade with Texens)

Actual Pick: Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville

Re-Draft Pick: Lorenzo Mauldin, DE/OLB, Louisville

Like our first pick, I wouldn't change a thing about this Mauldin selection. I have been very high on Lorenzo for a while now. @DrewFromJersey and I mocked him in the 2nd round of our 2nd mock. Mauldin is a fiery player that is cranked to 11 on every play. He is relentless in pursuit of the ball carrier, and plays with a heavy fist. Not only is he an amazing player that will grow in this ferocious defense, he is a great teammate. He has the mentality, and the temperament to be a beast on the edge, but does need to develop his technique a little. Another pick I was looking at was the RB out of Northern Iowa, David Johnson. In the end, Mauldin was the final piece we need to complete this defense

Round 4 - Pick 103 (Trade with Jaguars)

Actual Pick: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor

Re-Draft Pick: T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh

I couldn't help but cringe when I saw this pick develop. I think the 4th round was way too early to grab a 3rd string QB. There is no way he is beating out either Fitzmagic or Geno Smith. We could have addressed a more dire need like our O-line. As a guy born and raised in Teaneck, I would have loved to have seen a hometown guy like Clemmings come to the Jets. Besides my hometown bias, Clemmings would have been a great value pick here in the 4th. A few weeks ago most had TJ as a late 1st round, early 2nd round pick. A foot injury has scared a lot of teams away until this point in the 4th. He is raw, but has all the natural talent in the world to be a very good tackle in the NFL. With D'Brickashaw ferguson getting older and more expensive, and Breno Giacomini not really showing anything more than mediocrity, Clemmings could have replaced one of them after a redshirt year.

Round 5 - Pick 152 (Trade with Texans)

Actual pick: Jarvis Harrison, OG, Texas A&M

Re-Draft Pick: Jarvis Harrison, OG, Texas A&M

It's really hard to not like this pick. Grabbing Jarvis here screams value. Harrison is said to have the talent to be a talented starter for years to come. Of course he didn't drop for no reason. He has some questions with his shoulder, and his work ethic. I trust our medical staff when it comes to evaluating stuff like that. As far as his work ethic goes, I feel like he will rally around this team. The AFC East has become the hunting ground for elite D-lines. If you don't have an O-line to match up with those guys, your QB won't be long for this planet. Harrison adds to a very young group of guards fighting for a spot on this team. Willie Colon may not be guaranteed a starting spot, and can be supplanted by one of these guys. Some other guys I was looking at with this pick were WR/CB Tony Lippett, TE Nick O'Leary or S Derron Smith. In the end, the need for talent along the O-line won out.

Round 7 - Pick 223

Actual Pick: Deon Simon, NT, Northwestern St. (LA)

Re-Draft Pick: Anthony Harris, S, Virginia

There must be something about Deon Simon that Mike Maccagnan and Bowles fell in love with. For me, I think there were a lot of other guys we could have gone with here. There are always talented guys that can contribute, that find themselves dropping to the 7th round. My guy is Anthony Harris. While watching tape for Eli Harold, I fell in love with Anthony Harris. He was always around the bal. He is a rangy safety, that has great instincts, and quick hips to break on the ball. He can also move quickly down hill, and attack the run. His tackling skills are top notch, and his football inteligence is obvious. I know we signed Marcus Gilchrist in free agency, but I don't see him as a ball hawking free safety that can go hunting throughout the deep end of the field. There are a number of other guys I would have been thrilled with here... WR Tre McBride, WR Dezmin Lewis, ILB Zach Vigil... Out of all these guys, I think Harris brings something to the table we don't already have.

We are only a few days away from what I think is the most exciting time of the offseason. Sure, free agency was big for us, but the draft is where we build for the future. Drew (@DrewFromJersey) and I fell in love with this mock. We hope you do as well.

Round 1
Dante Fowler Jr., OLB, Florida
6'3" - 261 LBS - 4.60 40
Mock 1.0 - Dante Fowler Jr., OLB, Florida
Mock 2.0 - Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

This pick was a very hard choice for us. There is a very good chance Fowler is gone long before we even get a whiff of him. Right now, the 5 spots ahead of us can best be described as chaos. Winston and Mariota going 1 and 2 are likely, but there are no sure things. Fowler could very well be there at 6. We believe this would work out perfectly for Mike Maccagnan and the Jets. Todd Bowles gets his dominant edge guy, to compliment our fearsome secondary/D-line. Fowler can line up in a number of positions, and rush from all of them. His versatility is only matched by his tenacity. Quinton Coples should be used more on the line, which leaves the outside to our favorite geriatrics Jason Babin and Calvin Pace. An infusion of youth and talent is much needed on the edge.

A lot of teams may have removed DGB from their boards, but we don't believe the Jets have. The only thing keeping DGB out of the 1st round, are his off the field concerns. If it wasn't for that, we could be talking about him at 6. His talent is too much to pass up here in the 2nd. I am having a hard time thinking of many defenses that can have an answer to Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Dorial Green-Beckham, Jeremy Kerley, Jace Amaro and *Duke Johnson* coming out of the backfield. I did a little foreshadowing there for our next pick. I would have no problem taking a chance on Dorial here.

With our 3rd pick, we selected another offensive weapon for Chan Gailey to play with. Duke Johnson adds a little bit of shiftiness to play alongside Ivory's thunder. We can line him up wherever we want and have him run it or go out as a dangerous pass catcher. He's the kind of guy you want to just give him the ball and set him loose. Every time he touches the ball, he is a threat to make a huge play. His size will limit him to being a complimentary back, but it is exactly what we need. We can look for a future power back once Chris Ivory leaves, if he leaves. Defenses will already have a hard enough time with our receivers. Johnson will make there job that much harder. Every QB needs a good check down option, especially the mediocre ones. Duke can thrive in this role, and do so much more.

Our secondary has been transformed, seemingly overnight. We have gone from having one of the worst secondaries to having one of the best, or at least on paper. I still look at this secondary and see some holes. I feel we are still missing a rangy free safety to sit back, and roam the deep end. I know we brought in Marcus Gilchrist to be our free safety, but I feel like he makes his living near the line of scrimmage. Amos can come in and fill this need. Adrian has speed, smooth hips and the range to roam the deep end of our secondary for a while.

With our first 7th round pick, we decided to go with one of my favorite sleeper LBers. Vigil is the kind of guy you want on your team. He fights tooth and nail on the field, and his tape backs it up. Vigil was one of the most productive LBers in college football this year. His games against Air Force and Hawaii were a privilege to watch. Zach was clearly the best player on the field in both contests. I like our depth right now at ILBer, but Vigil is too good to pass on. He can very well work his way onto this team as a special teamer, and maybe something bigger next year.

We feel like this pick puts a nice little bow on our draft. Other than QB, I think our biggest weakness on offense is our O-line. They are getting very old, and loosing their effectiveness. With the exception of Nick Mangold, I don't trust anyone else on our line to be able to hold up to the d-lines of the AFC East. Chaz Green offers a lot of versatility along the line. He has the functional strength to play all 5 positions along the line. He needs to get stronger at the next level, but overall, plays with good footwork and pass blocking technique.

There will be a lot of talk between now and the Jets making their selection 6th overall on Thursday night.

Teams will release certain information to the media before the draft, whether it be the truth or a smokescreen, a double bluff or triple bluff, what we hear isn't always what it seems. However sometimes you do get logical and reasonable information passed through that you consider.

We've heard a lot about the possibility of moving up or down, and today the reliable Kristian Dyer heard from a source that the Jets are looking to move down rather than up in this years first round. Speaking to a league director who's team has had a conversation with the Jets, he said:

"It sounded like they were a team not looking to go up in the draft," the director said. "It was a conversation that sure sounded like a team that wanted to get more picks and move back. Certainly not desperate but actively looking – maybe due diligence is the way to put it – and getting more picks. But they very much wanted to talk about what might be out there in terms of trading down out of that pick."

I can't say as I'm that surprised. Most general managers now believe in the building through the draft philosophy and thanks to a number of trades, the Jets only hold 6 selections in this draft, half of what they had last year. The selections include their selections in the first four rounds and two in the seventh round, one attained from the Brandon Marshall trade.

Mike Maccagnan has already said the team would communicate with the teams behind them:

"What we're going to do this week is reach out, obviously, to the teams ahead of us and, quite frankly, teams behind us," Maccagnan said. "These are the phone calls we have when we're touching base with every team in the NFL. Other teams put out very vague feelers in terms of, 'Hey, are you guys interested in moving out of six?' And I don't want to necessarily go into who's said what"

I'm actually expecting the Jets to move back. I think they'll really fall for someone like Gurley who they could probably get between selection 10-15, meaning they can drop back and pick up a number of selections to enhance their chances of finding some draft gems.

Thursday is going to be very interesting for the Jets.

We're taking it in turns here at GGN to publish our top 6 big board, yesterday the Salmon was up and today I give you mine.

As Scott explained yesterday, if the team is going to go BPA then we only need 6 players on our board to guarantee our first round selection. I have no idea who the Jets have as their top players, but if I were in control of the Jets draft strategy I would have the following players listed as my top 6. If the first five all go with the first 5 picks, then the 6th player on the list is drafted. If only one players is selected in the first 5 picks, then my number 2 would be selected.

So I'm going to go straight from the top:

1) Jameis Winston

There is a lot I don't like about Winston but we're in desperate need of a QB with the skill-set to instantly produce. Winston has that. It doesn't mean he'll put it all together but he'd be topping my big board.

2) Dante Fowler Jr

I have a lot of time for Dante, he seems to impact the play more often than not. We need a pass rusher and he is the finest pass rusher in this draft. Good length, great talent.

3) Leonard Williams

You can't remove a player from your draft board just because there isn't a need. Williams has the talent to dominate at the next level and his bust potential is low.

4) Marcus Mariota

I still have faith in Mariota and I still think he'll be an excellent QB at the next level. I appreciate the concerns but he has an enormous amount of talent and a dedication to work that will ensure he excels.

5) Amari Cooper

One of the finest receivers I've studied in a long time, he really does have it all. Speed, hands and his route running is exceptional. He knows the nuances of the position, he'll be a star.

6) Kevin White

Love Kevin White as a prospect, he'll instantly be a threat in the red-zone, he has power and pace and he can pick the small things up as he goes. He'll dominate very early on.

There are a number of other players I would be happy with in the first round, including Beasley and Gurley, Ray, Peat and Scherff. However if we end up with any of the 6 I outlined, I'd personally be delighted.

Well here is a little turn up for the books.

According to Lance Zierlein, highly touted prospect Shane Ray will require surgery on his foot, expected 5 month recovery time:

Shane Ray has been heavily linked with the Jets and he was widely considered one of the top pass rushers in the NFL draft. However with the news he is set to miss 5 months, will this drastically affect his stock? Some are suggesting he could fall out of the first round. He's explosive in every sense of the word, and a foot injury could impact his greatest strength.

He doesn't have ideal length but he does play at 100% every single snap. If his stock really does drop due to this, could the Jets make a play with their 2nd round selection rather than their 1st? It's worth considering.

Personally I don't think he'll drop out of the first round due to this, he has too much talent, however stranger things have happened in the NFL draft.

Shane Ray did visit the Jets for a workout in March.

Well finally we've embraced a selection that isn't a quarterback and isn't a pass rusher.

It's largely accepted that the Jets are likely drafting a QB or OLB'er in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, but what if they didn't? McShay has the Jets selecting Georgia RB Todd Gurley:

Analysis: Now that Gurley is cleared from a medical standpoint, I think he's going to go high. Maybe not this high, but I do think this pick would make sense. The Jets' biggest need is at quarterback, but they won't be able to find one in this scenario, and having an elite back like Gurley would provide help for an offense that won't be getting above-average quarterback play -- and new general manager Mike Maccagnan saw firsthand with Arian Foster in Houston the impact an elite running back can have. Other options for the Jets here include WR Kevin White, OL Brandon Scherff and edge rushers Randy Gregory and Vic Beasley. There was a time when I thought Gurley would last until the 20s, but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Now here is a player I absolutely love. Now we all want to see us address our biggest need and running back certainly isn't it, but having a game changer in the back-field can be a big difference.

Last week he was cleared on medical grounds, which means he's good to go. There are obviously concerns relating to rust, lets not forget that Gurley missed almost the entire 2014 season, either through suspension or injury.

However he is quick, strong and difficult to bring down. He has soft hands and an ability to spot and create running lanes. He doesn't fumble very often and has quick feet and acceleration. If the Jets do decide to draft Gurley using the BPA philosophy, I can get on board.

One of the most popular 2nd tier pass rushers will be in New York today.

It's widely believed that the Jets will pick up a pass rusher at some point in the draft. If we decide to go elsewhere at #6 overall there is a chance we'll be looking for an OLB at the top of the second round and Utah star Nate Orchard is considered one of the best.

Today the Jets will be getting to know him according to a report:

I actually quite like Nate Orchard as a 2nd round prospect. 18.5 sacks last year and constantly buzzing around the QB's head. He's got a lot of potential but he gets his success through effort and foot quickness and doesn't possess a great deal of pass rushing moves. He gets engulfed at the point of attack and he isn't much of a factor against the run. He's also been called soft which is a worry for any defensive player, let alone a pass rusher.
He's only had one year of success in college and that was 2014, was he a one hit wonder or is he finally growing into the position. I think he'll pick up coverage quite easily and he'll be a factor rushing the passer, however I'm wary that his bust potential is off the scales. You would really need to do more homework on him to feel confident.

We are getting very close to the draft and the visits are rolling in, today we hear that Perriman will come in for a chat.

Perriman isn't a top 10 talent, well at least he doesn't appear to be a top 10 talent. However he is a first round talent and if the Jets do decide to either trade back in the first or trade up in the 2nd, it's good to know the talent available. He may even drop to the Jets selection in the second round.

Perriman is a 6'2, 212lb receiver from Central Florida. Last year he finished with an incredible 20.9 yards per catch mark which included 9 touchdowns. He's very fast, with ideal height and playing strength. He's explosive in his cuts, and he always gains separation. He sounds almost too good to be true, so why is he likely not a top 10 selection? His hands are inconsistent and he's extremely raw.

The thing is, he could be the best receiver in this draft, he really could. He has that quick-twitch acceleration that will enable him to get open a lot in the NFL. However the drops are a killer and a lot of teams may be scared away by them.
