Hello everyone! Years ago I used to post these Tweets of the Week articles under the username Half Serious. However, due to personal issues, I disappeared one day. Well, I'd like to inform you all that I'm back! For now at least, but I'd like to start posting these again. Without further ado, commence the tweets!
Aaron Rodgers Trade
Although Hall-of-Fame QB Joe Namath gave Aaron Rodgers his blessing to wear No. 12, the new Jets‘ QB is expected to wear No. 8 — the number he wore in college at Cal.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 24, 2023
With Aaron Rodgers now traded to New York, the Jets are expected to become prime-time darlings when the NFL schedule is released next month and could play up to six prime-time games, per sources. They had one last year, a Thursday nighter vs. the Jaguars.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 24, 2023
Rodgers doing the full off-season is like having an ex who never wanted to travel because it was too stressful and then you see them on Instagram with their new person in the Maldives
— Peter Bukowski (@Peter_Bukowski) April 26, 2023
There are a lot of people here for the Rodgers presser but this is not anywhere near as crowded as the Tim Tebow presser in 2012.
— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) April 26, 2023
I said all along, the Packers needed to deal Aaron Rodgers for the sake of the Packers, and Aaron Rodgers needed a trade for the sake of Aaron Rodgers. You can already tell he looks rejuvenated. It was just time. Happy he looks happy.

I've been to a ton of big New York press conferences over 37 years, but the @nyjets and @AaronRodgers12 aced that one. About as decisive a presser victory as I've ever attended. Rex Ryan's intro is up there too.
— Ian O'Connor (@Ian_OConnor) April 26, 2023
In the post presser media gathering with @AaronRodgers12 --standing right beside him I noticed how much inner-joy he was exuding. It was quite striking & noticeable. I asked him to reflect on his feelings today, compared to other key points in his personal & professional life... pic.twitter.com/Wi9ybmXvY7

Aaron Rodgers genuinely looks refreshed and excited to be a New York Jet.
— Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) April 26, 2023
Here's the deal. The biggest criticism of Rodgers during his tenure with GB was his lack of motivation during the offseason. If he balls out in 2023 after all of this, that criticism was 100% justified, and he let the team down in a big way. https://t.co/07JRaCQmFi

Aaron Rodgers trade so far:
— Michael Nania (@Michael_Nania) April 29, 2023
Jets get:
- QB Aaron Rodgers
- EDGE Will McDonald
- CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse
- TE Zack Kuntz
Packers get:
- EDGE Lukas Van Ness
- TE Luke Musgrave
- K Anders Carlson
- 2024 conditional pick
Will McDonald IV
McDonald has freaky pass rush tools - and goes to a defense that will allow him to play in attack mode as a rookie, definitely some Randy Gregory aspects to his game
— Connor Rogers (@ConnorJRogers) April 28, 2023
Joins #Jets edge rush rotation of Carl Lawson, Bryce Huff and Jermaine Johnson https://t.co/wixduxsU22

League source, briefly on why #Jets selected Will McDonald IV at pick #15:
— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) April 28, 2023
"Elite rusher, unique ability to bend, elite length."

Jets take Will McDonald IV #15
— Chris Simms (@CSimmsQB) April 28, 2023
Top 5 defense in football, and they add this guy?!
He's as long as it gets. Maybe the best pound-for-pound strength in the draft.
He's Leonard Floyd with better pass rush ability.
From talking to scouts, Will McDonald has excellent closing speed. Real good bend, which is important for an edge rusher. Had only 5 sacks last year, but he was miscast. Used as interior rusher, not his strong suit. #Jets will use as DE and wide-9.
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 28, 2023
Sounds like the Jets were getting some trade interest for the pick, but Douglas decided McDonald was too good to pass up. #Jets
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 28, 2023
Will McDonald IV is "on the very short list of prospects in this draft class with double-digit forced fumbles (shares the ISU record with 10 career forced fumbles)" (@dpbrugler)
— Jack Stollow (@jetsbyjack) April 28, 2023
NYJ ranked 30th in takeaways per game in ‘22. McDonald has a knack for taking the ball away
IDL is a far greater need for the #Jets. The problem is that there really isn't a player there at No. 15 that was worth the No. 15 pick.
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) April 28, 2023
Can make argument Will McDonald wasn't really worth 15.
Seen a lot of second-round grades on him pre-draft, including @dpbrugler
Will McDonald's selection by #Jets marks the first time Iowa State has had a 1st-rounder since RB George Amundson by the Oilers in 1973 (14th overall).
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 28, 2023
Iowa State entered this year's draft with the longest active drought without a 1st-round pick among current Power 5 schools.
This is rather remarkable: Only 2 Iowa State players have been drafted in the top 40 overall in the last 30 years:
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 28, 2023
DE Will McDonald, 15th tonight
RB Breece Hall (36th pick last year) #Jets
The Jets adding Will McDonald IV gives the defense MORE JUICE off the edge. He rushes like he's hungry and often finds his Happy Meal. He was also a state champion in discus and had a third-place finish in high jump. So remember kids, being a multi-sport athlete is a good thing.
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) April 28, 2023
So after sleeping on it, I'm confident Will McDonald will be a good player. I trust Saleh with pass rushers. My issues are he will probably only play 20-30% of the snaps this year and we put ourselves in a position with the pick swap that the Patriots could screw us, and they did
— Bryan (@BryanOreally) April 28, 2023
This is an area where the #Jets can get a lot better.
— Michael Nania (@Michael_Nania) April 28, 2023
NYJ edge rushers won very consistently in 2022, as they created pressure on 12.5% of pass rush snaps, 5th-best out of 32 edge units. But they only had 25 sacks to 172 pressures, a 22nd-ranked pressure-to-sack rate of 14.5%. https://t.co/ZutE2r90Cr
@nyjets @WILL_JUN1OR - he's got traits that foreshadow a great pass rusher in the making.

Here's to hoping we got the better one
Carter Warren
Nice pick by the Jets. Potential starter in a year or two if he makes the progress some scouts I've spoken with believe he's capable of. https://t.co/YKHsFpKt1T
— Mike Giardi (@MikeGiardi) April 29, 2023
Jets fans, Carter Warren is a skilled pass-protector at tackle with excellent length that he maximizes with light, independent and well-timed strikes.

Jets get one of the best Day 3 OTs in the NFL Draft in Carter Warren. Think he could have gone higher if he didn't get hurt this year. Uses his length + hands well and plays with an edge. Massive man who moves a lot better in spaces than you'd expect: pic.twitter.com/F1z2k36M29
— Bobby Football (@Rob__Paul) April 29, 2023
With their fourth-round pick (120, via NE), the #Jets select OT Carter Warren from Pitt. From Paterson, NJ. A four-year starter. Missed 9 games last season with a knee injury. 6-5 1/2, 311 pounds. 24 years old.
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 29, 2023
Carter Warren, who grew up in Paterson, NJ, says he was a Jets fan growing up. Said he played in a state championship at MetLife Stadium in high school
— Antwan V. Staley (@antwanstaley) April 29, 2023
Really impressed with Carter Warren's pass protection so far, he looks polished in his pass sets.
— Michael Nania (@Michael_Nania) April 29, 2023
Big fan of this pick. When I watch him, he just looks the part of a solid NFL starting tackle pic.twitter.com/MgQPH8LW9D
Israel Abanikanda
Abanikanda had a game for the ages at Pitt:
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) April 29, 2023
With his 320-yd and 6 TD performance vs Va Tech in Oct, he broke Tony Dorsett's program single-game record (303 against Notre Dame in 1975) and tied the program record for Rush TD (stood for over 100 years). #Jets
Something to note, #Jets fans, on new RB Israel Abanikanda:
— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) April 29, 2023
He also has kick return ability.
The #NYJ loved that.
As a bonus: Israel Abanikanda is still only 20 years old. https://t.co/AuVoyxVQFE

RD 5 | PK 143 - Jets: Israel Abanikanda RB, Pittsburgh
— Next Gen Stats (@NextGenStats) April 29, 2023

Jarrick Bernard-Converse
If #Jets pick Jarrick Bernard-Converse had been at NFL Combine, this is where his Pro Day testing numbers would've ranked among CBs/safeties:
— Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) April 29, 2023
40-yard dash: 8th/1st
Vertical: 1st/3rd
3-cone: 4th/2nd
Short shuttle: 3rd/3rd
In the classic Alabama/LSU game last season, Jarrick Bernard-Converse made a huge play interception as he kept Bryce Young and the Crimson Tide out of the end zone

More importantly, love that he didn't give up on this play

Jarrick Bernard-Converse was drafted with pick 204 of round 6 in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 9.77 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 51 out of 2222 CB from 1987 to 2023. https://t.co/pFQEan98U4 pic.twitter.com/9roZpeQAEu

With the 204th overall pick, the New York Jets select S Jarrick Bernard-Converse from LSU. Versatile defensive back who can play in slot, on the boundary, or at safety. 6'1" and 197lbs, needs to improve anticipation and tackling technique. 56 starts over his college career.

Undrafted Free Agents
Three here made my top 300:

Xavier Gipson, 270 - 4 punt return TDs in last 3 years
Travis Dye, 287 - pass catching RB, would need to carve out 3rd down role https://t.co/nknoc5YTAV
