Monday Night Football, Week 13. Tonight the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Cincinnati Bengals at 8:15 pm EST. The Jaguars are 10 point home favorites against the Bengals according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

The 5-6 Cincinnati Bengals come into this game with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. Star quarterback Joe Burrow went down with a season ending injury a couple of weeks ago and the Bengals have dropped three straight games. Now career backup Jake Browning tries to lead the Bengals to victory on the road against one of the best teams in the AFC. Browning, despite being in the league since 2019, started his first NFL game last week, and it did not go all that well. The Bengals offense generated just 10 points with Browning under center in a 16 - 10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Browning and the Bengals will have to do much better tonight if they want to beat the Jaguars.

The 8-3 Jacksonville Jaguars come into tonight’s game winners of seven of their last eight games. It’s not clear how they’ve achieved that level of success. The Jaguars’ running attack is dismal. Their passing attack is slightly above average. The Jaguars rank 30th in the NFL in pass defense. These are not the typical attributes of a championship contender. But the Jaguars have done two things well. They rank 2nd in the NFL in defensive turnovers, and they rank 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed. The Jaguars have ridden those strengths to a place near the top of the AFC standings. If they win tonight the Jaguars will be tied with the Miami Dolphins for the best record in the AFC and the 2nd best record in the NFL. I’m not sure the Jaguars are really as good as the record implies, but that’s where things stand.

I’m taking the Jaguars to take care of business at home against a struggling Bengals team led by their backup quarterback.
