The Jets’ offense has been dismal all season long. It got so bad that the Jets changed quarterbacks two weeks ago from Zach Wilson to Tim Boyle. That didn’t work so according to multiple reporters at The Athletic, the team is considering a move to go back to Wilson. There is a catch, however. The quarterback is reluctant to return according to the reporters.
The Jets want to make a switch at QB. The team is leaning towards Zach Wilson to take over, but he is reluctant to stepping back in, sources tell @DMRussini and me. The team is hoping he changes his mind as they continue to discuss the next steps.— Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) December 4, 2023

99 times out of 100 I would not take the player’s side in a situation like this. Somebody under contract should be willing and want to play.
This might be the one in 100, however, where I defend the player. I don't know why the Jets would turn back to Wilson at this point. For the third year quarterback it’s a no win situation. The Jets offense has an infrastructure that practically every quarterback in the league would struggle with. The play calling is dismal. And this situation has helped turn him into a lightning rod for criticism. Why should he want to play in an impossible situation where he’ll get most of the blame for inevitable failure?
It’s amazing to me that after all of these years, this franchise finds new ways to be embarrassing.
