The New York Jets won on Sunday. How far did that drop them in the draft?

How costly was the win over the Commanders?

On Sunday, the New York Jets defeated the Washington Commanders in a mild upset.

For those rooting for wins, this was a welcomed outcome. For those rooting for losses and a better draft pick? Not so much. Just how much did this win hurt the Jets draft positioning?

To begin, the Jets entered the day holding the 6th pick. The Jets now pick 9th. In many ways, this was a fortunate outcome, as they would have fallen to 12 had the Las Vegas Raiders, Green Bay Packers, and Atlanta Falcons not won their games.

However, had the Jets lost, they would have risen all the way to tied for the 4th overall pick with the New York Giants. The Jets would have been tied for 4 other teams at 5 wins. Of those 4 teams, they would have had a lower strength of schedule than all of them except the Giants, with whom they are tied on Strength of Schedule. Moving forward, the Jets would have played one of the teams in front of them in the New England Patriots, against whom a loss would have moved the Jets to the 5th overall pick at worst.
