The Jets get their 6th win on the season in a close game with Washington. The game begun 17-0 Jets after 5.5 minutes in the game, but practice squad quarterback football and defensive miscues almost snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
There are a number of positives in this game like Israel Abanikanda got his first game with extended action, and Israel Abanikanda got 43 yards on 9 carries. Brownlee got his first touchdown, and Gipson had 120 all-purpose yards. Ashtyn Davis got another key takeaway. The usual suspects played good football.
This game reminds Jet fans why the Jets are not picking first in the draft since that honor involves being the worst in the NFL which the Jets are not. The Jets are 6-9, and the 2022 Jets ended 7-10. In short, the needle did not move much from 2022 to 2023 in the win-loss record.
The real upside is the fact that our key players are from more recent draft picks with the exception of 2020 UDFA Bryce Huff. Even with questions about Huff, the Jets spent a 2022 1st round pick, a 2022 4th round pick, and the 2023 1st round pick on edge rushers Jermaine Johnson, Michael Clemons, and Will McDonald IV. There is no guaranteed on those three players will pan out, but Jermaine Johnson has 6.5 sacks on the season while McDonald has 1.5 sacks in the last three games. The question is what the Jets will do in the 2024 offseason to add to the roster, and what will be the return of Aaron Rodgers for 2024 season will be like?
