The first half of the New York Jets game against the Washington Commanders is in the books, and the Jets are leading the Commanders, 20 - 7.

The Jets started the game on defense and immediately made an impact play. On the second play from scrimmage Tony Adams picked off a tipped pass and the Jets offense was in business inside the Commanders’ 25 yard line. The Jets offense then did what they’re best at. They bogged down and had to settle for a short field goal and an early 3 - 0 lead.

On the ensuing Commanders possession the Jets defense forced a three and out, then blocked the punt, giving the Jets offense a first and goal at the nine yard line. A few plays later Trevor Siemian hit Jason Brownlee for a touchdown pass and the Jets had an early 10 - 0 lead.

The Commanders bobbled the next kickoff and started their drive inside their own 10 yard line. The Jets forced a three and out and almost had an interception in what was one of the most disastrous starts I have ever seen in the NFL. The Jets fielded the ensuing punt and their offense started their third straight drive inside enemy territory.

On the second play of the Jets drive Breece Hall took a handoff and took it to the house. The score was now Jets 17, Commanders 0, and the way the Jets play defense, it looked like the game was already all but over midway through the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter the Jets punted and Jamison Crowder had a big return going before he fumbled and the Jets recovered. It was passing strange watching an opponent of the Jets be the ones imploding with an avalanche of ineptitude.

The Jets tacked on another field goal for a 20 - 0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Then disaster struck for the Jets. On the Jets’ next possession Trevor Siemian fumbled a high snap and the Commanders recovered the ball at the Jets’ 12 yard line. One play later the Commanders were in the end zone, cutting the Jets’ lead to 20 - 7.

Late in the half the Jets were lined up to punt, but the Commanders inexplicably jumped offsides, giving the Jets a first down. The Jets then proceeded to drive the length of the field, culminating in a Breece Hall touchdown run for a 27 - 7 lead with less than two minutes to go in the half. The half ended with that same score.

The Jets go into the locker room leading the Commanders by 20 points.
