Jets rule out Aaron Rodgers playing again this year but will still activate him to 53 man roster

News that is both expected an unexpected coming from Florham Park

The Jets face a Wednesday deadline to add Aaron Rodgers to the 53 man roster or rule him out for the season. Interestingly it sounds like the team plans to do both.

Head coach Robert Saleh stated that Rodgers will be added to the active roster but will not play in the final three games of the 2023 season.

The Jets returned him to practice three weeks ago. Players on injured reserve can practice for three weeks without taking up a roster spot. At the end of the three weeks, the player either needs to be added to the roster or shut down for the season.

The addition to the active roster allows Rodgers to practice for the final three weeks of the season. How much practice heading into the offseason will help Rodgers is anybody’s guess. Clearly the Jets seem to think there is value.

To say the least, this is an unusual move. But of course the Jets are an unusual team.
