Jets open as 3 point favorites vs Commanders

The New York Jets got annihilated by the Miami Dolphins, 30 - 0 on Sunday. It was the Jets’ worst performance of the season. They couldn’t do anything right on offense or defense. The game was already all but out of reach by the end of the 1st quarter. It was an embarrassment.

The loss brought the Jets record to 5-9 on the season and mathematically eliminated the Jets from the playoffs for a 13th straight season, the longest such streak in major American sports leagues. Now the Jets prepare to face the Washington Commanders at home next Sunday.

The 4-10 Commanders are a mess. They have lost seven of their last eight games. Their only win in that stretch came against the moribund New England Patriots. The Commanders are coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in which their starting quarterback, Sam Howell, was benched. The Commanders are last in the NFL in points allowed, passing yards allowed, passing touchdowns allowed, and passing yards allowed per attempt. The Commanders have given up 28 or more points in six of their last seven games, and they have scored 20 points or less in six of their last seven games. The Commanders have played only five winning teams all year, and lost every such game. The Commanders also have a losing record against teams with .500 records or worse. In short, the Commanders stink. The New York Giants put up 31 points against the Commanders. The Chicago Bears rang up 40. Their defense is the salve that heals bad offenses. Bad offenses like the Jets, for instance.

It is a mark of just how terrible the Jets offense has been that the Jets are only three point favorites against this Commanders team. With the Jets holding home field advantage, that’s the equivalent of a toss-up on neutral ground. Sadly, that’s probably warranted, especially if Zach Wilson is unable to go due to his head injury. While Wilson certainly has problems of his own, Trevor Siemian inspires zero confidence. The Jets can’t move the ball at all with Siemian at the helm, and he turns the ball over at an alarming rate.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Jets open as 3 point home favorites against the Commanders on Sunday. That seems fair. This is a game between two bad teams. The home team gets the nod here, but with little confidence.

The Moneyline odds are New York Jets -162/Miami Dolphins +136.

The Over/Under for the game is 38.

What do you think Jets fans? Will the Jets beat the odds in this game?
