The Jets at this point in the season are playing out the string. They’re getting some of their draft picks and other young guys a good look so they can make informed decisions about next year. They’re also bringing back Zach Wilson to once again start at quarterback. As bad as this sounds, Wilson is the least awful of a bunch of bad options at quarterback for the Jets.
Unlike the Jets, the surging 7-5 Texans are in the thick of a playoff race. The Texans are led by rookie sensation C.J. Stroud at quarterback. Stroud is even garnering some MVP talk for his stellar play. But Stroud has struggled badly this season when faced with opponents with top pass defenses. Stroud will also be missing his 2nd and 3rd targets today, and he will be battling some bad weather in the New Jersey meadowlands. That might set up the Jets defense for a big day today, but the offense still needs to come through with at least a minimum level of competence. The incompetent Jets offense makes winning improbable, but, hey, you never know. If the New England Patriots can put up 21 points in a half against the Pittsburgh Steelers, anything is possible. Maybe even Zach Wilson and the Jets can find some magic on offense against the Texans.
We’ll find out in the pouring rain at MetLife Stadium this afternoon.
