Week 14 of the 2023 NFL season takes center stage with four Sunday late afternoon games.
The best matchup, at least on paper, has the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Buffalo Bills. When the schedule makers were putting this together prior to the 2023 season this must have looked like an AFC Championship game preview. Times have changed. The 6-6 Bills are fighting for their playoff lives. A loss to the 8-4 Chiefs today would drop the Bills to below .500 and seriously damage their post-season hopes. Meanwhile, a loss by the Chiefs today could drop them into 4th in the AFC standings and put the division crown in jeopardy. This is not the setup we might have expected before the season began, but it still brings with it a whole lot of intrigue.
Elsewhere in the late afternoon games, the San Francisco 49ers host the Seattle Seahawks in a game the Seahawks need badly to keep their post-season hopes alive; the Las Vegas Raiders host the Minnesota Vikings in a game both teams need desperately; and the Los Angeles Chargers host Denver Broncos in an AFC West showdown both teams need to keep their playoff hopes alive. Every one of these late afternoon games has major playoff implications. Good stuff in a dreary season for the Jets.
