Packers vs Lions Prediction and Game Thread

The Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers in the first of three Thanksgiving Day matchups

It’s Thanksgiving Day and that means an NFL tripleheader. Getting the action started, the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers in the early afternoon game.

The 4-6 Green Bay Packers got off to a rough start this year in their first season in years without Aaron Rodgers at the helm. Jordan Love took over for Rodgers at starting quarterback this year, and the transition has been a rocky one. The Packers went seven straight games without scoring more than 20 points, a tough way to win in the NFL. They dropped five of their first seven games before winning two of their last three. In addition to the Packers’ offensive woes, the Packers have struggled on defense, ranking 28th against the run and 17th overall. The Packers have not beaten a winning team all season.

The Detroit Lions got their 2023 campaign off to a rollicking start with an opening day upset victory over the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions have gone on to record an 8-2 record to date, good for the second best record in the NFL. The Lions have benefited from an easy schedule, facing just three teams with a winning record to date, and losing two of the three. Nonetheless this is a formidable Lions offense that scores points in bunches, and a defense that has not dominated, but has been good enough to get the job done most weeks.

This game looks like a bit of a mismatch. The struggling Packers offense probably doesn’t have enough firepower to stay with an explosive Lions offense. I’m picking the Detroit Lions to take care of business at home against a mediocre Packers team.

Enjoy the game everybody. Please leave your comments on the game below, in the section cleverly marked “comments.”
