Jets open as 7 point underdogs vs Dolphins

The New York Jets try to turn things around on a short week against the Miami Dolphins

Syndication: Palm Beach Post BILL INGRAM / THE PALM BEACH PSOT / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Jets got blown out by the Buffalo Bills, 32 - 6, today, in another game in which the Jets offense was allergic to scoring. Zach Wilson was benched at quarterback in favor of Tim Boyle in the third quarter, but Boyle did no better than an ineffective Wilson. The loss was their third straight after winning three in a row. It brought the Jets record to 4-6. The Jets playoff hopes are now virtually nonexistent. To the extent there are any hopes left, another loss this week would extinguish those.

Now the Jets prepare in a short week to face the Miami Dolphins at home in the first Black Friday game in NFL history.

The 7-3 first place Dolphins are coming off a 20 - 13 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. The high-powered Dolphins offense got off to a great start this season. The Dolphins won five of their first six games against the easiest schedule in the NFL. As the opponents have gotten more challenging, however, the Dolphins have fallen off a bit. The Dolphins have lost three of their last seven games. They have lost to every winning team they have faced this season. So far the Dolphins have been a team that bullies the weaker teams and rolls over against the stronger teams.

Unfortunately for the Jets, they are definitely in the weaker teams category. The Jets have not scored more than 13 points in a game since the middle of October. Even against a Dolphins team that has cooled off considerably on offense, scoring 20 points or less in three of their last four games, the Jets offense just isn’t scoring enough to make victory likely. Sure, the Jets defense is capable of dominating in any given week, and if they dominate, the Jets might have a shot at an upset. But that’s not the way to bet.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Jets open as 7 point home underdogs against the Dolphins on Friday. That’s a fair spread. It might be too generous to the Jets. With a Jets team that can’t score, playing against an explosive Dolphins offense, unless the Jets defense is dominating, that spread seems too low. I expect the Jets defense to give the Dolphins offense some problems, but I expect the Jets offense to be so impotent it won’t matter.

The Moneyline odds are New York Jets +270/Miami Dolphins -340.

The Over/Under for the game is 41.
