Monday Night Football, Week 7. Tonight the Minnesota Vikings host the San Francisco 49ers at 8:15 pm EDT. The 49ers are 7 point road favorites against the Vikings according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

The 2-4 Minnesota Vikings have kept things close this season, with every game so far decided by a single score. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they have been on the wrong end of the score four times in six games. Their only two wins this season have come against two of the worst teams in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears. Now the Vikings have to face arguably the best team in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers, and they have to do it without their one superstar on offense. Justin Jefferson is on injured reserve with a hamstring. The Vikings played without Jefferson against a porous Bears defense last week and they couldn’t manage 20 points on offense. A game against the 49ers presents this hobbled Vikings offense with a severe challenge.

The 5-1 San Francisco 49ers come into this game off their first loss of the season, a tight 19 - 17 loss at the hands of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns defense was ranked #1 in the NFL going into yesterday’s games. The Vikings 15th ranked defense should not present the same level of challenge for a 49ers offense that scored 30+ points in each of their first five games before last week’s loss to the Browns.

I don’t think this game will be close. The 49ers are simply a much more talented team than the Vikings, even with Justin Jefferson healthy. With Jefferson out of the lineup this game looks like a big mismatch. I’m taking the 49ers over the Vikings tonight.
