AFC East Week 7 Roundup: Jets Gain Ground in Their Bye Week

NFL: Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets did not play in Week 7, but it ended up being a good week for their division chances.

The two teams in front of the Jets in the standings both lost. The Buffalo Bills lost a thriller to the New England Patriots 29-25. Then on Sunday Night Football, the previously 5-1 Miami Dolphins fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 31-17.

It isn’t often that a team succeeds by doing nothing, but that is where the Jets find themselves coming out of their bye week. Many expected the AFC East to be a tight, three team race. The path has seen plenty of twists and turns, but more than one-third of the way through the season, the Jets are in the mix. While in third place at the moment, New York is just 1.5 games out of the division lead and a single game behind Miami in the loss column.

  1. Miami 5-2
  2. Buffalo 4-3
  3. Jets 3-3
  4. New England 2-5
