In the Jets’ 2021 home opener, on a gorgeous sunny day at MetLife Stadium, the New York Jets lost to the New England Patriots, 25 - 6.
In the first half the Jets couldn’t get out of their own way. Despite the defense playing well, the Jets trailed at halftime 13 - 3 due largely to three first half interceptions thrown by Zach Wilson.
In the third quarter Zach Wilson continued to struggle. Another interception resulted in a quick touchdown for the Patriots and a 19 - 3 lead. The Patriots tacked on another field goal in the quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a 22 - 3 lead.
With the Jets offense showing little in the way of urgency despite a three score deficit, the game was more or less over entering the fourth quarter. The Jets went on a long drive which fruitlessly ended in a field goal to cut the deficit to 16 points, but at that point so much time had been run off the clock the Jets had no chance. The rest was just garbage time. The Patriots added a late field goal to bring the final score to 25 - 6.
With the loss the Jets go to 0-2 on the year.
