It’s opening day for the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL season and the Jets are on the road in hot and muggy Charlotte, North Carolina to face the Carolina Panthers.
The Jets look to get a new Jets era off on the right foot with a win over the Panthers. This game has interesting matchups all over the place. Almost Jets promising young head coach Matt Rhule vs actual Jets promising young head coach Robert Saleh. Former Jets top 3 pick quarterback Sam Darnold vs current Jets top 3 pick quarterback Zach Wilson. Former Panthers stud defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins facing his old team. Former Jets star wide receiver Robby Anderson facing his old team. Intrigue around every corner.
Little is expected of either team this year. Both are in the midst of a rebuild. Today’s game gives each team an early opportunity to assess how that rebuild is shaping up. By far the most talked about assessment will be at quarterback. Many Jets fans believe the team made the right choice in moving on from Sam Darnold and taking Zach Wilson with the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. Many Panthers fans disagree. No matter what the outcome of today’s game, no one game will provide the definitive answer to that question, but there sure will be plenty to talk about tomorrow.
It’s the New York Jets and the Carolina Panthers in a game dripping with interesting subplots to kick off the 2021 New York Jets season. Please leave your comments in the section cleverly marked “comments” below. Enjoy the game everybody.
