The Jets opened the game on defense and were immediately steamrolled by Joe Flacco and a cast of Eagles backups. Two terrible plays by starting Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood led to two big gains and an Eagles touchdown for a quick 7 - 0 Eagles lead.
The Jets offense answered with a long drive of their own. Josh Johnson led a Jets offense playing with some starters and some backups. He marched the Jets methodically down the field for an answering Jets touchdown and a tie game.
From there it was all Eagles. The Eagles outscored the Jets 14 -3 the rest of the half, and the Jets defense was helpless to stop an opponent playing mostly backups, just as it has been most of the preseason.
We go into the second half with the Jets trailing by 11 points. From here on out we get to see the back of the roster guys desperately trying to make a case for a spot on the 53 man roster. Whether the Jets scrubs outscore the Eagles scrubs or vice versa is irrelevant. The individual performances are what matters here, as we get long looks at some young players for the Jets. Take particular note if any veterans and/or recent high draft picks are playing deep into the second half. Those guys may be on their way out the door.
Enjoy the second half everyone.
