In the third and final preseason game of the 2021 season, the New York Jets tied the Philadelphia Eagles 31 - 31 on a wild Hail Mary pass and a two point conversion as time ran out.
In the final tune-up before the scores matter, the results were mixed. As we’ve seen throughout most of the preseason, the Jets defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed. On the other hand, the Jets offense moved the ball reasonably well, especially on the ground.
After a first half dominated by the Eagles offense, the Eagles went into halftime with a 21 - 10 lead. Jets backup quarterback Josh Johnson, in his first action of the preseason, looked more in command of the offense than either James Morgan or Mike White had all preseason, but the defense couldn’t get off the field. The Jets defense recovered a bit in the second half, holding the Eagles offense to just three second half points. James Morgan, in a wildly erratic performance, led the Jets to 21 second half points, but for most of the second half it was the ground game that did the heavy lifting.
In the end, the Jets scored on a Hail Mary pass to Kenny Yboah in the end zone as time expired. A Josh Adams run for the two point conversion tied the game and concluded the Jets’ first undefeated preseason since 2002.
With the tie the Robert Saleh Jets’ preseason record goes to 2-0-1 as he gets the team off to a winning start. Now the tough part begins, as the regular season looms.
