Below are offensive snap totals for the Jets from Saturday’s preseason win against the Packers.
The starters got just under half the snaps, which roughly lines up with the time they were pulled from the game.
We will find out soon what the plans are for the third preseason game. Across the NFL this year teams are adapting to one less game in the preseason. In the past, most teams had their starters play briefly in the first game. They got more time in the second game. The third game starters played into the third quarter to simulate a regular season game where they would need to warm up after halftime. Then in the finale starters played one series if they played at all.
It will be interesting to see over the next few years which approach becomes the standard. It seems like teams across the league are experimenting right now.
