The first half of the New York Jets preseason game against the Green Bay Packers is in the books, and the Jets are leading the Packers, 17 - 14.
The Jets opened the game deep in their own territory at the 15 yard line. Zach Wilson then led the Jets on a long scoring drive that eventually bogged down inside the Packers 40. Matt Ammendola hit a 54 yard field goal with plenty to spare and the Jets took an early 3 - 0 lead.
The Packers answered with a long touchdown drive in which the Packers offensive line dominated the Jets front 7 and A.J. Dillon repeatedly tore off large chunks of yards in the running game. A long run into the end zone gave the Packers a 7 - 3 lead.
Early in the second quarter Zach Wilson led another scoring drive, highlighted by a deep pass to Corey Davis. The Wilson to Davis connection was cooking early on. The drive ended with a touchdown pass from Wilson to Tyler Kroft and the Jets regained the lead 10 - 7.
The Packers responded with a 19 play, 10+ minute drive that took up most of the second quarter and ended in a touchdown pass to regain the lead.
After a 73 yard kickoff return by Corey Ballentine put the Jets at the Packers 30 yard line, the Jets scored again on another Zach Wilson to Tyler Kroft touchdown pass. That gave the Jets a 17 - 14 lead, which they took into halftime.
We go into the second half with the Jets leading by 3 points. From here on out we get to see the back of the roster guys for both teams. Whether the Jets scrubs outscore the Packers scrubs or vice versa is irrelevant. The individual performances are what matters here, as we get long looks at some young players for the Jets. Take particular note if any veterans and/or recent high draft picks are playing deep into the second half. Those guys may be on their way out the door.
Enjoy the second half everyone.
