Thursday was a devastating day for the Jets franchise. The team lost edge rusher Carl Lawson for the season with an Achilles injury.
This is a significant loss for the Jets. The team gave him a big contract in free agency to be the top pass rusher on the roster. Furthermore, the Jets built their defense around the line. The hope seems to be the pass rush would protect an inexperienced group of cornerbacks.
The injury has a particular sting because the Jets have lacked a consistent edge rusher since trading John Abraham fifteen years ago. Frequently it has felt like the team lacked the desire to find top notch edge rushers, a feeling that changed after the signing of Lawson.
On today’s podcast I offer thoughts on the short term and long term implications of this injury on a difficult day for the fanbase.
Thanks for listening to the show.
