Jets rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore has been one of the stars of training camp so far. With that in mind, it’s a bit of a disappointment to hear that he left Thursday’s practice with a quad injury.
Jets WR Elijah Moore is being evaluated for a quad injury. He left practice early today. Robert Saleh said Moore will get an MRI this afternoon.— Eric Allen (@eallenjets) August 12, 2021
This leaves Moore’s status for Saturday’s preseason opener in question. The good news is we still have a number of weeks before the Jets open the regular season. Having Moore ready for that is the real priority.
In better news, it sounds like defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is progressing in his rehab from offseason foot surgery.
Quinnen Williams will be a full participant at the Green Bay practices, although he won’t get as many reps as others because it’s his first time out there. All that barring a setback tomorrow #Jets— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 12, 2021
The Jets will be conducting joint practices with the Packers next week prior to the preseason game between the teams.
The team is hoping to see progress out of rookie Alijah Vera-Tucker, who has missed the last few days of practice.
Vera-Tucker is coming along. Still day-to-day. #Jets hope he can go against GB, but they don’t know yet.— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) August 12, 2021
Reserve tackle Chuma Edoga isn’t yet ready to return, but the Jets seem optimistic he will get back soon.
Chuma Edoga had a knee scope, expected to be back at the end of camp, per Saleh. #Jets— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 12, 2021
Finally, Braxton Berrios will miss the preseason opener.
Braxton Berrios (groin) won’t play Saturday night. Should return next week in Green Bay, per Saleh. #Jets— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) August 12, 2021
For some players missing preseason action isn’t a big deal. I don’t think Berrios is one of those players. He is on the roster bubble. His clearest path to the 53 man roster might be by winning a returner job, and those will likely be determined to a large degree by what happens in the preseason.
