Jets Position Review: Cornerback

On whether or not Wilson will throw for 4,000 yards:
Hard to believe we will be that competitive if he doesn’t reach 4000 yards in 17 games. That should be the baseline for the him. Especially now where the qb can barely be touched and the pro- offense minded penalties

On the Tight End situation:
Regarding the TEs on this team, I think only one of griffin and Herndon makes this team.
Kroft is a lock. I think Yeboah sticks too, given his potential and minimal cap hit over the next 4 years. Wesco seems to be more of a fullback at this point, but he can play snaps at TE in a pinch. That means only room for one of Herndon (2.2 mil cap savings if cut) or Griffin (1.8 mil cap savings if cut). For my money I’ll go with Herdon. He has been either hurt or terrible the last two years, but I’m ready to give him a Gase pass and see if he can do anything in this new offensive system. Later Grif.

On Robert Saleh’s coaching strategy:
Albert Breer wrote a very insightful article on Saleh’s coaching philosophy. Saleh relishes adversity, because it will show how players handle it, or fail to handle it.
Failure should be seen as an opportunity to learn, and grow.
The team will make mistakes. The crux of the matter will be if they manage to minimize enough of their mistakes, which will give them a chance to win.

On how many games the New York Jets will win this year:
Gut feeling the Jets are somewhere around 8 wins with a 1 win standard deviation. So, basically somewhere between 7 to 9 wins.
-Jeremy J. Jackson
If the Over/Under is 8, I’m taking the Under. I really don’t care if they are crappy at the beginning of the year. I want to see a strong second half after they have had time to gel. It’s the year after where my expectations will be really high if they finish 7-10 but with most of those wins coming in mid-November to January.

On the backup QB situation:
Man... this backup quarterback nonsense. Look, I’m not personally thrilled with the state of things there but good lord. Wilson’s job as a rookie selected at 2 is to go out and there and start, period. The lack of a backup QB has virtually nothing to do with Wilson’s development or anything about what he needs to do. The person/group being “failed” by the lack of backup is the rest of the team and the fans! If Wilson goes down... we’re gonna suck. If you’re taking the long view, that doesn’t matter too much but I don’t want another dead season. But how on earth is the lack of backup QB Wilson’s problem at all?

On the Jets not extending Marcus Maye:
Marcus Maye is very replaceable. This is the Adams argument all over again 1- keeping your ‘own’ players 2- Determining value of a safety position. I tend to side with JD. Can’t just pay him because he has been a Jet. Can’t pay an average safety who is 29 years old a multi year deal with money near the top of his position. Its bad business. Paying a guy because he has been here is also bad business. The argument that the Giants are paying Ryan that money so Maye deserves it is ludicrous. That would indicate the Jets are not as stupid as the Giants.

-Keeping players while they’re young, effective, and cheap -Letting them walk when they become old and expensive -Relying on the draft to find their replacement Right out of the Ozzie Newsome playbook. Isn’t this literally the kind of GM behavior that we’ve all been clamoring for?
