Good morning, Gang Green Nation! The 2021 NFL Draft is now history, and boy was it fun to watch the Jets try to fix the offense. Joe Douglas called the offense’s number with the first four picks in the draft, and ended up with a potential franchise quarterback, a potential top guard, an explosive slot receiver, and an explosive running back. Put that together with the Jets free agent signings and you can see the outlines of what could be the most exciting and prolific Jets offense in years.
The Jets followed up the run of offensive players by pivoting and choosing six straight defensive players to close out the draft. There weren’t a lot of big names on the defense, but there were a lot of uber-athletic players with major upside. The Jets chose two linebacker/safety hybrids, three cornerbacks and a defensive tackle to finish the draft, and all had some interesting athletic traits that suggest untapped potential.
In the end you could see a clear, well thought out approach to this draft and building this team. It may work out well, it may not, but the last three days give Jets fans plenty of reason to hope for the best, and that’s a nice change from prior regimes.
