Well you can’t say the NFL doesn’t have a sense of humour, or that the NFL doesn’t love a bit of drama.

The full schedule release isn’t planned until 7:45EST tonight, but we did find out our week one opponent just moments ago.

The Jets revealed that they will be heading to Carolina to face off against San Darnold and the Panthers.

So there we have it, 1pm on Sunday the 12th of September, the Jets will face off against Sam Darnold and you know it’s going to be billed as the Wilson v Darnold game. A revenge game, a justification game.

The Jets traded Sam Darnold away to the Panthers earlier this off-season, and in exchange received a 6th round pick this year as well as a 2nd and 4th round pick in 2022.

With the #2 overall pick in the draft the Jets took BYU QB Zach Wilson as Darnold’s replacement, and the NFL just could not resist putting that matchup front and center. We now have four months to build this match-up into something so overhyped that it’s sure to disappoint.

Darnold finished his Jets career having appeared in 38 games, throwing for 8,097 yards 45 touchdowns to 39 interceptions for a completion percentage of 59.8%. He was never surrounded with much talent, but he also never seemed to learn from prior mistakes.

The main question this off-season was if it was the talent or Sam himself preventing him from reaching his potential. Well, we’ll get a front-row seat for the opening act as that question is answered come September.
