The New York Jets have selected defensive back Brandin Echols out of Kentucky with the 200th overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Brandin Echols is a 5’ 11”, 185 pound cornerback. Echols played 24 games in two years at Kentucky, where he amassed 108 tackles, 11 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception. Echols lacks size and strength and struggles against bigger, physical receivers. However, he is a fluid defender with great playing speed and excellent ball skills. He has good hips, good closing burst and is an intelligent and instinctive pass defender who reads plays well. Despite his diminutive size, Echols does not shy away from contact in run support.
With this selection the Jets continue to add to the defense. Pick after pick has now addressed glaring weaknesses in the secondary and at linebacker.
