Good morning, Gang Green Nation! With the early free agent frenzy largely played out, the New York Jets now settle in for a few weeks of patient, lower tier signings. For many the first stage of free agency has been a disappointment and a lost opportunity; for others it has been a refreshing change from the silly cap breaking moves of the past. Personally I like the fact that most of the signings have been of younger players who can be a part of the future if they pan out. For the most part I like the size of the deals, with none of them likely to significantly haunt the Jets. I like that the free agents signed to three year deals will still be young enough to get another deal when the current deal expires. That sets up the Jets to finally be in a position for some compensatory draft picks, if they choose to let the players walk. Like most people I didn’t like every move made by the Jets. I dislike the Jarrad Davis signing; hopefully Davis and the Jets prove me wrong. In the end, it’s been a solid but cautious start to free agency. The team is improved and the cap has not been hamstrung. Potential trades and a crucial draft still await. Let’s see where things stand when the smoke clears in early September.
