The Jets were quiet in free agency Tuesday morning and afternoon. Will things stay that way in the evening?

After landing Corey Davis and Carl Lawson Monday evening, Jets fans entered Tuesday waiting for an encore.

As afternoon turns to evening, they are still waiting. News broke of only one minor signing, special teams ace Justin Hardee of the Saints.

Yesterday things did not start happening until the evening. Will that pattern repeat itself tonight?

Maybe, maybe not. Tuesday seems like a relatively slow day in general in the NFL. It didn’t feel like signings were moving at the typical pace of the second day of free agency.

Typically each year in free agency we reach a point where money dries up for teams, and many of the remaining players have to come to terms with the reality they might not get as much money as they were hoping for. This is when bargains can be struck.

It is too early to say for sure whether we are reaching that point in 2021, but many of us have expected that time to come much earlier this year than usual with many more quality players still on the market than is typical. With the Jets still possessing a lot of cap space, there should be a big opportunity to fill key holes at reasonable prices in the days ahead. The question is how long we will have to wait.

We also might wonder how much patience fans will have before we arrive at that point.
