According to multiple reports, the New York Jets have agreed to terms with former Detroit Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis. The deal is believed to be a one year contract for up to $7 million with incentives.
Davis is a 26 year old, 6’ 1”, 245 pound linebacker originally drafted by the Lions with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 2017 draft. His best year came in 2018, when he had 100 tackles and 6 sacks. Davis never really lived up to his draft position and gradually fell out of favor in Detroit. He struggled in pass coverage (144 passer rating allowed last year), and he struggled tackling, missing tackles at a 13.7% or worse rate in each of the last three years. By the 2020 season Davis lost his starting job in Detroit, and it became obvious they would not re-sign him. Now Davis has a chance to resurrect his stalled career in New York, where a starting job likely awaits him at outside linebacker.
