NFL Free Agent: Jets interested in Trey Hendrickson

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

According to Josina Anderson, the Jets along with the Vikings and Browns are showing interest in bringing in New Orleans pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson.

The Saints are in all kinds of cap trouble, so it seems likely that Hendrickson will be playing his football elsewhere next season.

Hendrickson is an interesting case, he’s spent 4 years in the league but his pass-rushing production only really clicked into gear last year. Of his 20 career sacks, 13.4 came in 2020.

If you look at his true sack rate, only a couple were attributed to genuine 1v1 wins, with a lot of the production coming on coverage and mop-up sacks according to the evaluation.

He’s certainly better than what we currently have in New York, but his production makes me a little nervous. It’s important to note that 2020 was his first year starting, so his historical lack of production could be due to opportunities, but his lack of clean wins on the outside make you nervous about his ability to replicate those statistics under different circumstance and in a different environment.

I wouldn’t hate the signing as he has a load of potential, but it would slightly worry me.
