We have reached NFL free agency. The legal tampering period in the NFL begins today at noon Eastern. Teams will be allowed to start negotiating contracts with free agents.
We will likely see many players strike new deals quickly. The contracts cannot officially be signed until the start of the new league year later this week. That can have an impact. Two years ago Anthony Barr reached a deal with the Jets but backed out before signing it. Still, that is an exception. By the end of today many teams will likely have big additions.
The Jets figure to be an active participant in free agency this year. They are among the league leaders in salary cap space. It isn’t clear how active they will be on the first day, but we can expect plenty of new faces to join the team in the days and weeks ahead.
