NFL: FEB 02 Super Bowl LV Preview

The 2020-21 NFL season wraps up tonight with the Super Bowl, featuring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in the first Super Bowl ever with a home team participant.

The 16-2 Kansas City Chiefs come into this game off a convincing 38 - 24 domination of a very good Buffalo Bills team in the AFC Championship game. It was the first Chiefs win by more than a touchdown since they beat the New York Jets on November 1, 2020. The Chiefs offense behind quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the NFL in yards in 2020 and was sixth in points. The Chiefs’ defense was pedestrian during the regular season, but they have been excellent in the post-season, holding two good offenses in the Browns and the Bills to a total of 41 points in two games. With an at times scary good Patrick Mahomes led offense, a Chiefs team playing good defense will be very difficult to beat.

The 14-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished the regular season with a flourish, winning their last four games after losing three out of the prior four. They have extended the hot streak in the post-season, winning three straight games on the road to get to the Super Bowl. Last week the Buccaneers upset an excellent Green Bay Packers team led by the reigning NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, despite three interceptions by Tom Brady. That three interception game by Brady extended his season long struggles against playoff teams. Against playoff teams this year the Buccaneers have a 4-5 record and Brady has thrown 12 interceptions in the 9 games. He’ll probably have to be sharp against the Chiefs to keep up with Patrick Mahomes and company.

It’s the Chiefs and the Buccaneers in the grand finale of the NFL season in Super Bowl LV. Enjoy the game everybody.
