The Jets lost last night which means we return to giving out an anti-game ball.
Over the last few years the Jets have made a mockery of the anti-game ball. I used to give out special group anti-game balls infrequently for exceptionally bad performances. Unfortunately exceptionally bad performances have become a norm, and the special anti-game ball has become a regular occurrence.
I don’t think I have much of a choice but to give out a group anti-game ball to the entire defense last night for a completely dismal performance. The Colts scored touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions. The only time they did not score in that stretch they drove it all the way to the two yard line. They rushed for the most yards of any team in an NFL game this season, and that was accomplished before the end of the third quarter.
I thought about giving the anti-game ball to the defensive line since it was so thoroughly dominated. But what about the linebackers who so frequently failed to execute assignments? Bryce Hall was beaten for a number of key completions. Ashtyn Davis looked completely lost out there.
It’s just impossible to choose. This was a system-wide failure. For that reason the entire defense gets my anti-game ball.
Who gets yours?
