Jets Open As 10-point Underdogs vs Colts

Syndication: USA TODAY Kareem Elgazzar / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Jets are coming off an exhilarating, wildly improbable, Mike White led victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. They came out fired up and never gave in, even after they were down by double digits late in the game. After weeks of misery and despair, it was fun to be a Jets fan on Sunday.

Now we have a short turnaround as the Jets prepare for a Thursday Night game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are coming off a demoralizing loss in overtime against their divisional rivals, the Tennessee Titans.

The short week comes with challenges for both these teams. For the young Jets, it will be interesting to see if they can quickly transition from the high of knocking off a good Bengals team to focus on beating the Colts. This could easily be a letdown game as the Jets come out flat after an emotional victory. On the other hand, the victory over the Bengals could act as a springboard to further success. It is possible the victory on Sunday could be an inflection point, with the young Jets turning a corner and playing better football from this point on.

For the Colts the overtime loss against the Titans was a huge setback. It all but eliminated the Colts from contention for a division title now that the Colts are three games back and have been swept in the season series. Such an emotional letdown for a Colts team that came so close to knocking off the Titans and climbing back into the divisional race could be difficult to recover from on a short week. On the other hand, the Colts could come out breathing fire, angry at blowing their chance and eager to exact revenge against the Jets.

We’ll know in a few days how the Jets react to prosperity and how the Colts react to adversity. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Colts are 10 point favorites at home against the Jets on Thursday. That’s a big spread, reflecting a skepticism as to whether Mike White and the Jets were a mirage on Sunday. After watching the Jets stink things up for most of this season, the skepticism is certainly warranted. The Jets could begin to change perceptions around the league with a win in Indianapolis. Will they win? I’m skeptical. I think this game has all the earmarks of a letdown game for the Jets. I hope they prove me wrong.

The Moneyline odds are New York Jets +375 / Cincinnati Bengals -510.

The Over/Under for the game is 47.

What do you think Jets fans? Will the Jets beat the odds in this game?
