Monday Night Football, Week 4. Tonight the Los Angeles Chargers host the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 2-1 Chargers come into this game off a signature victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers have thus far fielded the worst run defense in the NFL, but they have been solid against the pass. On offense the Chargers, led by second year quarterback Justin Herbert, have had one of the best passing attacks in the NFL, while fielding a disappointing running game.
The 3-0 Raiders have been one of the biggest surprises of the young NFL 2021 season. The Raiders, nobody’s AFC West favorites before the season began, currently sit alone atop the AFC West standings. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has gotten off to a scorching start, leading the NFL with 401 passing yards per game. The Raiders currently feature a ridiculous four different receivers on pace for a 1000 yard season. These numbers are unsustainable over a long NFL season, but the Raiders nonetheless pose a formidable challenge to opposing pass defenses. The Raiders ground game, on the other hand, has been among the worst in the NFL.
The Raiders current success may be a bit of a mirage, as two of their three wins have come at the expense of the 1-3 Miami Dolphins and the 1-3 Pittsburgh Steelers. Tonight’s game offers the Raiders an opportunity to show they’re for real, on the road, against a good Chargers team.
It’s the Chargers and the Raiders in an AFC West division rivalry game on Monday Night Football.
Enjoy the game everybody.
