Week 7 of the 2021 NFL season continues with a handful of late afternoon games.
The late games don’t offer much in the way of intrigue today. Three of the four games feature double digit point spreads, and the only game projected to be close features a bad Philadelphia Eagles team against a Las Vegas Raiders team that just lost its head coach. Perhaps the most interesting story here is the double revenge game of Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff. The game itself is not expected to be close. It pits one of the NFL’s best teams in the Los Angeles Rams against one of the NFL’s worst teams in the Detroit Lions. This one will probably be a blowout. What makes it mildly interesting is that we get something you almost never see: two quarterbacks simultaneously facing their former teams from last season. The Rams and the Lions swapped quarterbacks in the offseason. The Rams clearly got the better quarterback in the trade, but the return of both guys to wage battle against their former teams creates at least a modicum of interest in this game.
Elsewhere in the late games, the 2-4 Philadelphia Eagles visit the 4-2 Las Vegas Raiders, the 3-3 Chicago Bears try to avoid being blown out by the 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the 1-5 Houston Texans offer themselves up as sacrifice to the undefeated 6-0 Arizona Cardinals. Upsets are always possible in the NFL, but this particular slate of games does not look compelling on paper.
Enjoy the games everybody. Use this thread to comment on whichever late afternoon games catch your fancy.
