If you tackle the quarterback for no gain or a loss on a passing play, you are credited with a sack. Players who produce a lot of sacks are highly celebrated.
Getting a tackle on a run play for no gain or a loss also helps the defense tremendously, but you seldom hear about the players who do this on a regular basis.
I wanted to do something about this so a few years back I created a stat called the run sack. These are the aforementioned tackles for no gain or a loss on rushing attempts.
Periodically I like to check in to see the run sack leaders on the Jets. The bye week seems like as good of a time as any for this.
Here are the Jets run sack leaders through the first five weeks:
John Franklin-Myers 5
Shaq Lawson 5
Quincy Williams 4
Quinnen Williams 4
Foley Fatukasi 4
Adrian Colbert 2
CJ Mosley 2
Tim Ward 1
Jarrod Wilson 1
Bryce Hall 1
Javelin Guidry 1
Michael Carter II 1
Marcus Maye 1
Bryce Huff 1
