Good morning, GGN! Training camp is over and cutdown day is here. Cutdown day will be a little different this year, as more roster spots are open and less players are in camp. In the typical year there are 90 players in camp and there are 63 spots open: 53 on the main roster and 10 on the practice squad. This year there are only 80 players in camp and 69 spots open: 53 on the main roster and 16 on the practice squad. Consequently, though the Jets will cut down from 80 to 53 by this afternoon, in the end as few as 11 of the players in camp may end up not making it onto the main roster or the practice squad. The Jets have started their cuts already, with James Burgess and Jonotthan Harrison already receiving notice their services will not be required. Of course, initial cutdowns are just the first step towards creating a roster. We may see last minute trades, waiver wire claims, and free agent signings in what is often a flurry of last minute moves before the Jets finalize their opening day roster. Once the frenzy dies down, it’s on to the weekly ritual of getting ready to play the games on Sundays (or Mondays or Thursdays or Saturdays) as we finally put the strangest of offseasons behind us and the 2020 NFL season gets under way.
