The first half of the Jets 2020 home opener against the San Francisco 49ers is in the books, and the Jets trail the 49ers, 21 - 3.
On offense, without all three of their starters at wide receiver after Breshad Perriman left the game with an injury, The Jets ran an ultra conservative game plan, replete with short, safe throws for Sam Darnold. The result was three points and a bunch of stalled drives.
On defense the Jets gave up an 80 yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, settled down a bit after that, then gave up two long touchdown drives culminating in a pair of touchdown passes to Jordan Reed.
We go into the second half with the Jets trailing by 18 points in a game that feels like it is already all but over. In situations like this in the past we have seen Adam Gase revert to a safe game plan, all but conceding the game in the second half. We’ll have to see if Gase changes things up this time and lets Sam Darnold throw the ball down the field, even with this depleted wide receiver group.
Enjoy the second half everyone.
