MNF: Giants vs Steelers Game Thread

Monday Night Football, Week 1, Game 1. The first Monday Night game of the 2020 NFL regular season, and the first game of tonight’s Monday Night Football doubleheader. Tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants.

The Steelers had a rare down year last year when their quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, injured his throwing arm and was out for almost the entire season. Things did not go well with the backup quarterbacks, but Big Ben is back tonight, presumably healthy, and the Steelers look to get back to their high octane offense, featuring a bevy of good young receivers. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, James Washington, Eric Ebron and talented rookie Chase Claypool create an embarrassment of riches for Big Ben to target, and if he’s healthy the Steelers should be capable of putting up plenty of points.

The Giants answer with riches of their own. Saquon Barkley was hurt most of last year, but he is healthy now, and when healthy he may be the most talented back in the NFL. Evan Engram is a matchup nightmare at tight end, and Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton present problems for opponents at wide receiver. If Daniel Jones can continue to develop at quarterback, the Giants have the potential for a high octane offense of their own this year.

The Giants have a new coaching staff this year, led by head coach Joe Judge, who looks to get his head coaching career off to a winning start against a tough Steelers team. The Giants lead the all time series between the two venerable franchises, 44-30-3, but the Steelers have won the last two meetings and three of the last four.

It’s the Giants and the Steelers to kick off Monday Night Football 2020.

Enjoy the game everybody.
