It’s opening day for the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL season and the Jets are on the road in chilly, rainy Orchard Park, New York to face the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets look to open the 2020 season the way they closed the 2019 NFL season, with a road win against the Bills. This year, however, it won’t be the backups the Jets face. Last year the Jets closed out a disappointing 7-9 season with a road win against the Bills, who were playing mostly backups after they had already locked in their playoff spot. This week’s matchup against the Bills will present an interesting challenge to open the 2020 season.

The Bills come into this game in the unusual position of being favored to dethrone the perennial AFC East champions, the New England Patriots. The last time the Bills opened a season favored to win a divisional crown Jim Kelly was quarterbacking the team. It’s been a while, for every AFC team not named the Patriots.

The Bills enhanced their offense in the offseason with the additions of veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs and rookie running back Zack Moss. Together with the development of young quarterback Josh Allen and second year tight end Dawson Knox, the Bills hope to develop a top offense to go with their already formidable defense.

The Jets come into the game hobbled by injuries at wide receiver, running back and linebacker. With a completely revamped offensive line that has yet to play together under game conditions, there may be some rough sledding for the Jets offense early on this season. The Jets also lost All Pro safety Jamal Adams in a trade and All Pro linebacker CJ Mosley to opting out for the season, leaving the defense lacking in star power heading into the season. With Avery Williamson and Marcus Maye hobbled by injuries, the Jets defense faces a challenge to put together a repeat of last year’s surprisingly competitive group, at least until the team has its best players back in good health. The Jets best hope for success early on lies in the hands of quarterback Sam Darnold, who Jets fans hope will take a big leap in his third year in the NFL.

It’s the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills in a divisional rivalry game to kick off the 2020 season. Please leave your comments in the section cleverly marked “comments” below. Enjoy the game everybody.
