PLAN TO SAVE THE NFL SEASON

Hey folks, hate to be the bearer of bad news but this season ain’t happening as currently constructed. I’ve devised a plan to reconfigure the league in hopes of salvaging this dumpster fire of COVID reality...

1) Scrap the schedule.

Enough of this cross country non-sense. We’ll keep the 6 divisional games intact, supplementing them with 4 games against the closest non-conference division (if possible, see #3 if not). ***NOTE*** All of this is done with the understanding that next season will take up with this year’s schedule and the annual cycle will resume thereafter.

2) 16-team playoffs for 1 season.

Eight division winners will host 8 second place clubs in the octavo de final. If folks wanna haggle it shouldn’t auto be the 2nd place in each division? I’m totally down with tie-breaks for wild cards within reason. In my 1st/2nd scenario, we align specific playoff matchups to decrease travel. For instance: NFCE v NFCS; AFCE v AFCN; NFCN v NFCW; AFCW v AFCS. Clubs gonna have to travel for 1/4’s but at that point who cares, as there’d only be 7 games left anyway.

3) Consider the possibility of a 6-game season.

Just a divisional round-robin and then possibly straight into cuartos, with division winners only making the dance. This is the most extreme idea obviously. A pressure packed sixer + only needing 3 further victories to win a Bowl would really be something wild. Asterisk all you want, that’s much better than banging the whole thing like the NCAA is about to do.

I’ll hang up an listen to ya answuh Miek...
