The deadline for NFL players to opt out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic was 4:00 pm Eastern today.
Going forward unless the rules change, there are only two circumstances that would allow players to opt out.
Only two ways an NFL player can opt out of the 2020 season after the 4 p.m. ET Thursday deadline:

- New diagnosis he has a high-risk condition
- Player’s family member dies, is hospitalized or otherwise moves to a medical facility because of COVID-19 or related condition
The Jets had three players choose to opt out before the deadline, CJ Mosley, Leo Koloamatangi, and Josh Doctson. Mosley is a starting linebacker, while Koloamatangi is a reserve offensive lineman who spent time on both the practice squad and the active roster last year. Doctson was going to compete for a roster spot at wide receiver. He opted out shortly before the deadline on Thursday.
Jets WR Josh Doctson has decided to opt out for 2020. Former first-round pick (Washington) signed in Feb with the hope of resurrecting his career. #Jets
