More than anything, this is a tough break for Smith. He had an opportunity to claim a role with a strong training camp. The Jets lack depth at wide receiver, and Denzel Mims’ injury left an opening for Smith.
Now somebody else on the roster will have an opportunity to claim that opening. There will also be an opportunity for somebody to impress as the kickoff return man in the early stage of the season with Smith out.
