The Jets have been dealing with injuries at the wide receiver position. Rookie Denzel Mims sustained a hamstring injury a few days ago.
Mims’ backup Vyncint Smith now seems to be dealing with an injury.
With both rookie Denzel Mims and vet wideout Vyncint Smith not practicing SUN, Jeff Smith getting some quality reps.

In response the team will reportedly sign veteran receiver Chris Hogan.
Veteran WR Chris Hogan is signing with the #Jets, source said. Back in the AFC East.

Hogan is a journeyman who was undrafted out of Monmouth in 2011. The Jets will be the seventh NFL team he has spent time with. He has already had stints with the other three teams in the AFC East.
Hogan does not come with a big track record of production. He has only eclipsed the 600 yard mark once in his career, and that was four years ago. There just aren’t many good options right now. The best thing for the Jets would be for Mims to get healthy, and Hogan to not see the field. At the very least, I commend the Jets for at least not giving into the temptation of signing Demaryius Thomas for now.
It should also be noted that Hogan has seen significant special teams snaps during his career so he conceivably could compete for a role there to earn a roster spot.
