New York Jets Flight Connections 6/17/20

Good morning, GGN! I hope you’re all having a great start to the day. As we inch closer to training camp, more pundits are expecting Jets’ QB Sam Darnold to finally ‘breakout’ in his third season in the league. Many have pointed to the ‘upgrades’ added to the team by GM Joe Douglas, but it’s still debatable if those are in fact upgrades at all. Sam doesn’t seem like he will suddenly change into an ‘Alex Smith’ type of quarterback (precise, and careful with the football), and with the lack of an elite threat I feel the young QB could struggle otherwise. This isn’t to say that Darnold doesn’t have the ability to exceed expectations, but given the structure of the team the odds aren’t necessarily in his favor. So if Darnold were to excel, it would be an excellent turning point in an otherwise ‘meh’ career thus far. It would also allow fans to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Darnold would more likely than not be the answer at quarterback.
