Report: Jets “have no intention” of trading Jamal Adams

Last night an ESPN report came out that stated the Jets and safety Jamal Adams are at an “impasse” in contract discussions. This has led to a lot of speculation about his future with the team, but SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano says the team doesn’t have much interest in dealing the star safety.

The Jets have no intention of trading Jamal Adams despite their latest impasse in contract negotiations, according to a source. And they expect that they will eventually sign him to a lucrative contract that, as promised, will make him a “Jet for life.”

Everybody wants these matters resolved quickly, but negotiations frequently drag on for a year or more. There is no real pressure for the Jets to give Adams a new deal or trade him. He is under contract for two more years. Adams doesn’t have much leverage in the situation. His only real options are to sit out voluntary offseason workouts and leak word of his frustration to the press. He has done both, but it won’t likely change the situation. It could be a while before we have a resolution here.
