On Adam Gase:
I like Coach Gase alot. It’s probably not the consensus view
Connie Mack wasn’t succeeding last season under untenable circumstances and with an atrocious roster. I am always in favour of giving the mulligan to see what the coach can do with a full deck. Contrary to vocal public opinion, many well respected players and future HOF’ers speak glowingly of Gase. I think his problem is that he possesses all the characteristics of a high performing savant. He’s probably wicked cerebral in the X’s and O’s, game tape breakdown and the academic part of the game. Gase would probably be a great professor of sorts. But he likely needs the right personnel, the right type of QB and the aligned strategy to unlock his form of vision, which is a sui generis in it’s own respect. I do believe that he and Darnold will make tremendous strides this year with another year under the belt and a strong O-Line. I do hope this headline actualizes itself in due course. Gase being a SB winning head coach and Darnold a SB winning QB would put to bed year (and decades) of despondency, disappointment and dishevel surrounding this franchise.

Why people hate Adam Gase
1) When the Jets were searching for a New HC, GGN members all had a Top 3 list. And while those choices varied, universally Gase was not on the list 2) Gase’s record in Miami didn’t exactly leave folks thinking hmmmm. He was just misunderstood. A fresh start is all He needs. 3) Outside of the 1st 15 scripted plays, Gases showed little of the Offensive Skillset/Accumen He was supposed to bring. His lack of adjustments were “Bowles-esque” 4) 2nd and Long… Run Up the Middle.

On Sam Darnold:
Watch Rodgers or Mahomes neither has “good” footwork
footwork is a comfort thing not everyone has to throw the ball the same way. As I said Darnold is basically league average by most accuracy stats throwing 75.2% of his passes on target (15th in the league) and throwing bad passes on 17.8% of his passes (14th in the league, tied with Carson Wentz). Darnold actually had a better bad pass percentage than Pat Mahomes, Russel Wilson, Jared Goff, Josh Allen, Tom Brady (29th in the league at 20.6%), and Aaron Rodgers (32nd in the league at 21.2%). He also had more on target throws than Rodgers, Allen, Brady, Wentz, and Goff. Using the net accuracy stat I created that looks for a true accuracy by subtracting the bad passes from the on target ones Darnold ranked 15th in the NFL. He was ahead of Rodgers, Allen, Brady, and Goff who all finished in the bottom third of the league. It’s all about when you make those bad throws that matters. That’s where Darnold has to improve.

I keep saying this. He will be the better long term QB than Lamar and the rest of that QB class. Lamar’s 1000 yd rushing seasons are not sustainable. He flopped in the playoffs again last year but gets no grief (only 12 points vs the titans) 31/59 365 6.2 1TD 2INT 63.2 RTG

On Keyshawn Johnson:
If Keyshawn
had Chrebet’s mind and heart, he would have been all world. Unfortunately, he was just an a-hole.

On the duties of an offensive lineman:
Offensive Line
I think sometime things get overcomplicated. In an effort to sound educated and sophisticated, we all talk about schemes and development and techniques – and all those things have their place. In terms of blocking, though, its pretty simple in the end. One 300 pound guy has to neutralize an opposing 300 pound guy. And in most cases – he’s standing right in front of you. You either win your block, or you don’t.

On Sam Darnold:
Here’s some cause and effect
With Beachum in the lineup, Darnold was sacked just 2.1 times per game Without Beachum in the lineup, Darnold was sacked 4 times a games Over Darnold’s career his record when sacked 2 times or less is 11-5 Over Darnold’s career his record when sacked 4 times or more is 0-5
