The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is complete. The Jets did something last night they had not done in fourteen years, pick an offensive lineman in the first round.
The trade rumors did not pan out. The Jets didn’t trade up. They didn’t trade down. The team stayed put and drafted Mekhi Becton, a tackle from Louisville. On today’s podcast I give my early thoughts on this pick.
My thoughts are mostly positive. The Jets needed offensive line help. They need it for 2020. They need it for the future. They can never let what happened to Sam Darnold in 2019 happen again for the rest of his career. If all pans out, Becton can be the kind of guy who grows with Sam for years.
On the show I also talk about how I think other teams did and offer some thoughts about how well things are set up for the Jets to take a wide receiver in the second round.
